We're Bringing Belly-Binding Back!

"We're Bringing Belly-Binding Back" honors a global tradition of belly-binding/belly wrapping during and after pregnancy.

Daisychain was inspired by my pregnancy when I felt an instinctive need to 'hold-up' or wrap my belly. My mid-wife had done her practicum in Jamaica and said pregnant women there would tie bright scarves and swaths of fabric around their pregnant bellies for support.

In Japan the garment is called a 'hara-obi' and is 32 feet long! The tradition has survived centuries and is part of their experience of pregnancy. They start wrapping around the 5th month until delivery and then use it post-partum to regain their shape. In South America it is a faja (simply girdle). It is also widely used else where in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean.

My sister and I were immediately intrigued! Putting this organic idea of woman based wisdom into the context of modern culture was exciting. The benefits of supporting your body while pregnant made so much sense. Then using this same idea to help your body heal after delivery and to regain your shape... a perfect combination.

Daisychain's goal is to celebrate this influence and translate it into something that resonates within our contemporary esthetic. We hope you love what we've done!

We'd also like to hear about any experience you might have had with belly wrapping and you can reach us at info@daisychainmaternity.com

Much Love,
